Day 11 - Nicknames

Day 11 — Nicknames you have and why

I've only had one real nickname that has stuck for any length of time (besides Mommy). I hate it, too. I have tried to get rid of it, I have asked to not be called it. I had hoped it would die all on it's own. But it just won't go away no matter how hard I try or beg or plead. It started out as a stupid work nickname  but now I even catch my own Mother using it! Stupid nickname.

I've been with Staples for almost 14 years.  When I first started with the company I worked for a man named Dave, still my favourite manager of all time.  He is one hilarious man and always used these quirkie phrases like "I'm finer than frogs hair" and "it's better than being hit in the nuts with a frozen snickers". I haven't worked for Dave in over a decade but he's unforgettable.

Part of my job used to be to fax off return requests. I would have to pencil in my name and fax it to different vendors. I always thought Nancy was a pretty easy name to spell and my signature is very legible. I have beautiful hand writing, damn it!  But one day a vendor faxed back a confimation with what would inevitably be the worst nickname on the planet; the one that would never die.......

Naner. How do you screw up Nancy and get Naner? I don't get it. Anyway, Dave saw Naner, thought it was amusing and started calling me Nutty Naner from that day forward.  And it has followed me everywhere I've gone. Someone calls me that, someone else hears it, they start using it, then my mom hears it and, well, you know the rest.

Nutty Naner. Nutty Naner Bananers.  Naughty Naner.

Ugh. There's this guy Phil who I worked with when I first started working with Staples. Every time I see him he calls me Naners and someone always hears him! And then they start using it. Ack. I hate it. My husband and I met at Staples all those years ago but he knows I hate the nickname so he never uses it. You know, because he wants to live and stay married to me.

One day this name will die....I hope!
